Today begins the 61st annual Cliff-Gila Grant County Fair. It is always fun to watch the kids show the animals they have been raising for the past many months. It is a lot of work and financial obligation for these kids and their families. They always show the animals with great pride, hopeful of making the sale!!
It's also fun to check out the exhibits, the carnival rides, and the booths. And the food is always great - BBQ, corn on the cob, snow cones, ice cream floats, and funnel cake!! Lots of choice!!!
Our fair has a great tractor show too. You can attend the rodeo each evening for thrills of bullriding, barrel racing and many other events.
All in all it will be a great weekend of fun that brings community together. This fair is honoring a long time real estate broker, George Jackson. He, like many other real estate brokers, gave back to his community and loved the agriculture community. So come on out and enjoy the fair!!

Some weekend fun - Copper Creek Ranch
If you are looking for something fun to do on Friday or Satuday evening, here's one suggestion. Located at 20 Flury Lane in Arenas Valley, is the Copper Creek Ranch. Gates open at 6:00 PM for you to brouse the shops and just hang out at the Ranch. A chuckwagon style dinner of beef or chicken, beans, baked potatoe, etc. is served at 7:00 PM. Following dinner, the entertainment begins with a western stage show by the Copper Creek Wranglers. Cost for the meal and the entertainment is $15 for adults and $14 for seniors and $7.00 children younger than 11, children under 3 are free. To make reservations, call 538-2971! Enjoy!!

Love The Rain
The rain has been wonderful the past couple of weeks in Silver City!! We have had sufficient rain prior to the 4th so that people could shoot fireworks off without fire danger. The forest was open and many people were able to enjoy camping over the 4th of July weekend. Many times our monsoon season does not start until the 4th, however it arrived early this year and it's been wonderful. The forcast for this week is that today will be our last rainy day and then it's warm sunshine. It will be great for the yards and gardens following the recent rains. Weather continues to be one of the main reasons for living in Silver City---I love it!!

4th of July in Silver City
When I began my blog, I wanted to give you a feel for what life is like in Silver City - not just about real estate. From my perspective, July 4th is the biggest holiday we celebrate in our little town. You can feel the excitement building. People are beginning to work on floats for the parade. It's a big deal!! The parade has a wide variety of entries from marching bands, cheer leaders and baseball teams, family floats, floats with a message and some down right pretty ones! The Kiwanas Club serves a wonderful breakfast and lunch in the park. You will also find many booths in the park on the 4th of July. The museum has an ice cream social. You will see lots and lots of people! The theme for this years festivities is 'Saluting Grant County Pioneers Past, Present & Future'. You will want to be a part of this celebration whether it is by entering a float, having a booth at the park or just by being a spectator. It is a fun filled all American holiday in Silver City! And then the fireworks display will finish off the day. I think they are still seeking donations for the fireworks. It's a great way to celebrate our nation's independence. People come from miles around and many who grew up here come back just to be here on the 4th of July. Come and join the fun!!

What's happening in Silver City? It has been very busy and exciting the past few weeks in Silver City. The Tour of the Gila was the best ever with Lance Armstrong riding in the race. You could feel the excitment every where to have a celebrity in town. It's not often we have a big name in our small town. Many residents of the town opened their homes to strangers to let me stay because there were not enough motel rooms to go around. A true spirit of cooperation from many people and agencies has to happen to put on that event. Hats off to Jack Brennen for all the work and a successful Tour of the Gila!
Memorial Day is another busy time for Silver City with the annual Blues Festival. Beautiful weather and lots and lots of people and a good time by all!
This week it's Rodeo Time - one of my favorites! Wednesday night was the Boys N the Bulls! Bullriding and exciting!!! Full rodeo every night the rest of the week. It's always great fun. So put on your boots and hats and come join the fun!

Shoveling Sunshine in New Mexico
On a recent Mulitple Listing Tour, we were discussing the beautiful weather we have been having this spring. Aside from the wind, the highs have been consistently in the 60's and it's just been gorgeous!
In our discussion, we were talking about the folks who live in the north and the east who are constantly shoveling snow. We wondered why would anyone live there and do that on a consistent basis?
The other broker in the conversation said she was talking with someone earlier in the week who was shoveling snow and she told them, "We don't shovel sunshine in New Mexico!" I thought that was a such an interesting concept--shoveling sunshine!
So for those you who think you might enjoy it, come and visit Silver City where we don't shovel sunshine!!!

Is The Real Estate Market Picking Up?
In a recent discussion with local real estate brokers, we were hashing over this question. It does seem that showing activity has increased in the past 10 days. There are still not very many contracts being written in our market place but at least the buyers seem to be jumping off the fence for a look at what's out there.
It seemed to be a general opinion that buyers believe our market is overpriced and sellers need to reduce their prices. We are seeing some price reductions come through our Multiple Listing System. I had a seller come in yesterday and reduce the price $25,000 on a property saying they are ready to sell!
It will be interesting to me to see if it sells quickly. I don't believe the sky is falling but perhaps prices are...

It's Friday!!!
People are always saying, "Thank God it's Friday" Is that because they just love Friday better than any other day of the week?
Perhaps it's because they get tired of getting up every weekday morning at a certain time to be at work at a certain time, to do a certain job, to get a certain paycheck(these days one can be thankful for that), and they just want a change in pace. They can sleep in. They are more in control of their own schedule. They can relax, take a hike, watch a movie, read a book, ride 4-wheelers or whatever their heart desires. They have two days before they have to be back at a certain place and get up a certain time to be there!
People seem to be in a better mood on Fridays, full of anticipation of what the weekend will bring. I just wonder sometimes what would happen if every week day were a Friday? Would our attitued improve? Just wondering...
